Litronic was selected by NIST and the Army Corps of Engineers to develop a cryptomodule that migrated the Corps of Engineers Financial Management System (CEFMS, a corps-wide system that incorporates several financial applications) to an electronic format. The Litronic ARGUS 300 cryptomodule provides key management, token initialization, signature generation/verification, key translation and message encryption/decryption into any financial system. It also enables encryption and electronic signature capabilities which have been integrated into various government agencies.

The ARGUS 300 overcomes limitations of ISA architecture by taking advantage of the latest advancements in PC design. The ARGUS 300 will plug into any standard PCI socket resulting in PC configurations that will be easier to use.

Litronic's ARGUS 300 reader/writer security adapter is a tamper-evident single PCI board with an external smart card reader. "Split knowledge/dual control" security is also provided to insure more than one user is required for the authorization of documents and transactions. The ARGUS 300 verifies a PIN without having the PIN forwarded to the smart card via the microprocessor. This Protected PIN Path eliminates the possibility of false user identification/authentication from the PC. The ARGUS 300 utilizes the standard PC keyboard, eliminating the requirement for special key pads or keyboards.
